Wings???

April 30th, 2009

I think I’m gonna head out to some wings tonight. It is Thursday, and we were on such a roll for some time there over the past year, but I guess over the last 2 – 3 months or so, I’ve not been such a steady wing partner. But I will be back in the fold tonight which should be good. I really do like chicken wings smothered in that tasty hot sauce.

The weekend is almost upon us. I think I’ve got a pretty busy one. I joined a church softball league which starts tomorrow night. Wow, hard to believe I’ve reached that point where I am that guy in his 30s that is playing church softball. It really seems like just yesterday that I was that 14 or 15 kid that was playing for EBBC with those grown men. I’m not shocked by the fact that I’m a grown man. Quite the opposite. I’m enjoying and embracing that reality. I don’t have any desires to head by to that point in my life. Sure, it was easier, and had less responsibilities, but I’m very happy with the way my life has gone up until this point, and very excited about what is to come. The part that weirds me out a touch is how fast its flown by. John Mayer has a song called “Stop this Train” that describes this very thing. I’m not sure I want to stop it, maybe just slow it down a touch. And since I can’t do either, why worry on it? So that covers tomorrow night, the rest of the weekend will be filled with golf, some teaching golf, some dog park, yard work and then the typical house chores. Nothing to strenuous actually, but enough to keep the pace from getting stale. I really am stoked to meet some new friends tomorrow night.

Well, I managed NOT to draft down my Death Cab tickets. I’m going to have to file a police report, but I’ve been so busy since Tuesday I’ve not been able to get it down. I just ended up buying 2 more tickets Tuesday night. They are actually much better seats. If I think back over the shows I’ve seen at the Ryman, these are without a doubt the best ones I’ve had. So even though I just burned another $150, thanks Mr or Mrs ticket thief, for now I have better seats! As for the car … well, nothing is wrong and its all better now. And the AC, well … I’m still waiting until next Tuesday. Since its just me, I can rough things out pretty easily. I just open the windows and turn on the fans. Since the temp has been back in the 70s and 50s its not been so bad. But let me tell you, last weekend was ruff. (like that play on words for the Chipper?) I think things might have been done a little differently had I not been the only one living in the house …

Speaking of the Chipper (I call her Chip, Chipper … I’ve heard Chipolte, Chipperdoodle) … oh, I can’t leave off “Big Fluffy” … she pretty much just comes to the sound of my voice. She’s doing well. Currently enjoying the wet weather because that means there are more puddles that she can splash around in and make bigger. Something about that dog and water. She still doesn’t like to come inside much. She is 98% an outside dog. Even sleeps outside. I really can’t complain about that one bit.

Well that kinda gets you caught up on the week thusfar and what is to come. Other than that, pretty much just cruising along. Solving my work problems 2 at a time, and keeping things in the road.

On a roll …

April 27th, 2009

Things are on a roll this morning. I’ve got no AC at the house, I shipped our Death Cab for Cutie tickets to my old apartment, my car is in the shop, and I still have a little bit of fallout from last week’s big changes. Nothing major I guess, just a lot of little things that add up to either cost time and/or money. Such is the way life goes though, and honestly, I’m not upset, because then I’d just be upset and dealing with this mess. I have to deal with it regardless, so whats the point of being mad :)

Pretty good weekend. I helped M & J’s family do some demolition on their new house on Friday night. Nothing like swing a crowbar for a few hours. I can honestly say I was extremely sore on Saturday and Sunday. Then proceeded to have a very laid back weekend after that. I did my usual yard work and chores, and then went to the Franklin Main Street festival on Saturday night. We had a really good time. I think we stayed for about 2 hours? And then went for Mexican food. Just a very good afternoon and evening. As for yesterday … more yard work and hedge trimming, followed by some household chores and grocery duties. Without AC, it gets awful hot up in the bonus room, so I tried to stay outside with Chip and lay in the grass until it at least got down into the 70s in the house. I think at one point, it got up to 84. Not that cool, to say the least …

Nothing major so far lined up this week. I actually don’t have any plans for any night, so I guess I’ll just play it by ear and see what kind of shakes out. I appreciate all the comments lately, and I’ve got some pretty cool emails checking up on me. Life is really good these days, and I’m so pumped for summer. I think the pool will be open soon, and I can’t wait to get in there and splash around.

That’ll do it for the updates … I may get some more Chip photos up this week and of course, I’ll have some more content as the week rolls on.

Gallery and link changes

April 23rd, 2009

Just wanted to note some changes. I’m transitioning from my MobileMe gallery to this new integrated one that is housed right here on the blog. At the end of the day, I wanted to move to MobileMe all the way, but it just is not that good. So check along the top navigation and you’ll see the pages appear. The first one is the Chip page.

Second … I’ve added a blogroll over on the right in the Blogs I Read section. So far, I’m just pimping some of my co-workers, but I’ll add a few others. Feel free to check them all out, comment and follow them as well.

Chasing Her Purple Hippo

April 21st, 2009

The door is open and I’m sitting at my desk in the living room. Living room you say … yes, I have no furniture in the living room, and since the desk is too big to fit in the guest doorway, I’ve put it in the living until I can take it apart and move it again. So here I sit, enjoying the fresh air, some Ray LaMontagne, a glass of Bourbon, and some Chip laying at the base of the chair. I tell you what, doesn’t get too much better.

Strangest thing has been occurring lately. I’ve been so future driven for so long, so much a planner that I think I’ve stifled myself from enjoying the things that are right in front of me and going on right now. I used to be this way. A long time ago … And over the past 3 or 4 weeks, I’ve been transitioning back towards that person. I’ve always been relaxed, no doubt, but now its a little more than that. Its relaxed and care free. Who cares about what happens at 35, 40, 50 … who really cares about what happens tomorrow. The fun is going on right now, and if your not careful, you might just miss it. Well not me. Not anymore.

I just scored some Death Cab for Cutie tickets for 2 weeks from yesterday. I cannot tell you how stoked I am for that. They are at the Ryman too, which makes it all that much more exciting. And its also on a Monday night. I love weeknight concerts for some reason. I just enjoy getting downtown on a weeknight. It is going to be a blast. Nothing like “I will Possess Your Heart” echoing in those acoustics. On the opposite side of that, I’ve got Metallica tickets for September. JRoy, you know your out there, and I’ll do what I can to help make that happen. I’ve got two my friend, and the other one has your name on it!!! I love me some live music.

How many of you guys have checked out The Work Institute’s new website? There have a been a few little glitches along the way. But all with older code and systems that were moved. Nothing with the new application. Can’t say how happy I am on that one. The other stuff, I knew it would be there, and I’ll just work through it. If you haven’t had a chance yet, cruise over there, and signup. There are some good blogs and forums going on, and it would be nice to have some of my readers participate.

So in the spirit of this post, and to match the title, I’ll leave you with the following image …

Been a while …

April 20th, 2009

Hey there everyone.  I know its been some time.  I hate when I see bloggers start of with, I’m so sorry I haven’t posted, I’ll do better in the future.  Well, I’m not really sorry I have not been blogging … I needed a break.  I started this a few years back as something fun to do, and it just wasn’t fun for quite some time.  And so I just stopped doing it.  But with all seasons in your life, they do have an end.  And that season is done.  So lets get this started!

I welcomed a new addition this weekend.  Her name is Chip.  She’s a 4 month old Airedale Terrier.  She is without a doubt the sweetest dog I’ve EVER had.  And I have had some sweet ones over the years.  But she is just amazing.  Take a look over in my gallery at her.  Photo Gallery

Work has been good.  We had a huge rollout of our new website and community platform this past Friday.  Phew, am I glad that is over.  I’ve got a real supportive crew, but none are technologists, so they are there if I need to vent, or push some buttons, or do some testing, or order pizza, and they do a great job at all of this, but at the end of the day, its on my shoulders.  Good thing I’ve been working out :-D Take a look when you get some time.  The Work Institute

Time to get ready and get Chip settled into her spot for the day.  Have a great one and I’ll see you soon …
